In this article we will go over how to use the restrict access feature in Moodle 4.0. The restrict access feature enables teachers to restrict the availability of any activity or even a course section according to certain conditions such as dates, grade obtained, group or activity completion.

Using the Restrict Access Feature
1. Go into the settings of the item you would like to restrict access to. In this example, we will restrict access to a Chapter Quiz based on completion of a previously assigned test review. In this case, we would go into the settings of the Quiz because we don't want it to appear unless the item before it has been completed.
2. Expand the Restrict Access section.
3. Click Add Restriction.
4. From this menu, you can now choose what you want to base the restriction of this item on. In this example, we are basing it on the activity completion of the previous assignment. In light of this, we are going to choose Activity Completion from the menu, but you can choose whatever you are basing yours on. You have.a choice between activity completion, date, grade, user profile, or Restriction Set.
5. After choosing activity completion, now we need to choose the item that we are basing the restriction on. So in this example, I am choosing that the Quiz Review must be marked complete. You can restrict access based on the completion of more than one item. If you want to add further assignments that need to be completed, select Add Restriction again and follow the same process. Make sure to save your changes.
6. In this specific case, since we based the criteria on the activity completion of a particular item, we need to make sure it is set up in that item's settings. To ensure the setup was correct, you would need to go into the settings and set the activity completion parameters if you haven't done so already. In the following screenshot, I have made sure that the activity completion is set for the Quiz Review.
