Moodle 4.0: How to Upload a File

This article will walk you through how to upload a file on to your Moodle page in Moodle 4.0.

To watch a step by step video tutorial of this feature, please watch the YouTube video below:

1. The first step is to navigate to the upper right hand corner of your page and turn your editing on by toggling the Edit mode switch.

2. Navigate to the week or topic that you would like to add the file. Press Add an Activity or Resource

3. From the Activity Chooser, select File.

4. Give your file a name in the Name box.

5. The Select Files box is where you will add the file that you would like to upload. Important: If you do choose to upload a file with this method, you can only upload one file at a time. Instructions on how to upload multiple files will be explained at the end of the article.

The first way to choose a file is by using the File Picker. The icon for the File Picker is the folded paper in the upper left corner of your text box.

Once you click here choose Choose File and search your hard drive for the file you would like to share.

The alternative way to add a file is by simply dragging and dropping the file from your hard drive into the dotted box.

Once you add your file with your preferred method, scroll down and click Save and Return to Course.

How to Upload More Than One File at Once

If you are comfortable using the drag and drop motion, you will find uploading multiple files at once very simple.

1. The first step is to navigate to the upper right hand corner of your page and turn your editing on by toggling the Edit mode switch. If your Edit mode is not enabled, this process will not work.

2. I find it the most comfortable if you put your Moodle screen and your hard drive screen next to one another. This way you can see your hard drive, and it will be easy to drag over your desired files. Once you have your screens next to each other, find the files you would like to select and drag them over to the week or topic that you want to place them.

You will know it is safe to drop them when you see a banner show up across the page that says Drop files here to add them at the bottom of this section.

Your files should now be uploaded to Moodle. The title of the item will be whatever the title of that file is. If you would like to change it, you are free to go into the Settings of that item and make whatever changes you desire.
